David Hamlow,
Mirror Stage

David Hamlow’s multi-media sculptures, installations, and paintings create monumental structures from upcycled materials such as cardboard and plastic containers. He pays close attention to the sites where his work is installed so Mirror Stage will include data and materials collected from residents who live above the Minnesota Museum of American Art in the Pioneer Endicott building. Visitors who come to the Minnesota Museum of American Art on June 10 will be invited to build some of Hamlow’s structures. His fascinating process helps people unlock the creative possibilities of upcycled materials while visualizing the sheer quantity of resources we consume. Hamlow says, “As we look closely at the future of the environment and feel the effects of global climate change, we have to better understand the impact each of us makes and imagine a solution.”

David Hamlow holds an MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Minnesota (2005). He is the recipient of multiple grants and fellowships and has shown work regionally, nationally, and internationally. Hamlow is the professor of Visual Culture at Minnesota State University Mankato.
