With 60 degree temperatures in February, and four mega-rainstorms in just six years, most Minnesotans recognize the climate change is here. The time to act is now.
People across the country are insulating their homes, reducing their energy use, driving less, biking more, buying less, growing more food, going solar, staying informed, and preparing for extreme weather. They are taking action in their homes and workplaces, and working with their neighbors to envision a positive and prepared community ready to withstand the changes ahead.
As you walk through Northern Spark this year, you will see people wearing Transition NOW! t-shirts. They take climate change seriously and they’re going public with the lifestyle choices they make every day to live out their commitment to life on this planet for ourselves and for future generations.
Pledge to take action yourself. Come to the “Grove of Life.” Write on a leaf your current or future commitments to one specific lifestyle change and attach it to the trees. Then take home a memento to remind you that many small changes add up to something great. Join with others at Northern Spark tonight, and with a Transition group tomorrow, to affirm your commitment to life.

Twin Cities Transition Artist Team is composed of:
Regula Russelle is a Minnesota Book Artist award winner for her body of work and contribution to the book arts community. She creates books, book-inspired sculptures, and installations. Her work is collected nationally. She teaches at Minnesota Center for Book Arts and Augsburg College.
Ruby Thompson is an artist working in a variety of mediums, including oil paint and watercolor, photography, and various printing methods. She received her BA in visual arts from The Evergreen State College in 2016.
Pat Thompson is a graphic designer, writer and gardener. Since 2013, she has been a core member of Transition Town-All St. Anthony Park, concentrating particularly on transportation and zero waste.
Peter Foster is a graphic designer, a puppet maker and a writer. He created four giant puppets (Gandhi, Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr. and Mother Theresa) that appeared for several years in the Heart of the Beast May Day Parade. Peter currently serves on the board of directors for Patrick’s Cabaret. He is one of the founding members of Transition Longfellow.
Leslie MacKenzie is a writer, community organizer for Transition Twin Cities, cofounder of Transition Longfellow, and a creator of community experiences. In 2002 she co-created a public participation event at Powderhorn Park to mark the start of the Iraq war. The kickoff event included poetry and music, candlelight and prayer, and the introduction of a public art project that resided at the Rainbow Pavilion at Powderhorn Park for several months.
Peter Doughty is involved with Transition NE Minneapolis. He is engaged with food and herb gardening, permaculture design, habitat facilitation. He is a published writer, interested in photography.
