Biomes are on the move. Trees are one of the most iconic markers of a biome—in Minnesota we revel in a northland filled with boreal species such as spruce, pine, tamarack, and birch trees. But things are shifting quickly due to climate change. Scientists predict that many of these iconic trees will move out of Minnesota within the next 50 years or so, shifting northwards. So we are having a farewell party for boreal trees – come have your photo taken with them, and write them a farewell note about the special times you’ve spent together.

Areca Roe is an artist based in Minneapolis. She works in many media; photography as well as video, sculpture, and installation. A recurrent theme in her work is the interface between the natural and human domains. She teaches photography at various colleges and art centers in the Twin Cities.
