Collaborators Mohamed Samatar and Ross Hutchens will curate a multimedia production titled Samawada. This original piece interconnects architecture, lighting, video, and ambient tones to create an immersive ephemeral experience in a geodesic dome stationed in Cedar-Riverside. This installation will challenge the progressively-conscious discourse of climate change that tends to speak and act in the abstract of distance.

Ross Hutchens is a sound architect whose work utilizes modular synthesizers to create an experimental audio experience alongside 14 years of musical training. With a sonic palette ranging from ambient to explosive, Hutchens’ goal is to morph tones that compliment the performance environment and enhance the dialogue between audience and exhibit. His work often deals with themes of crisis and melancholy and contrasts them with ideas of potentiality and timelessness. By creating soundscapes his focus is to inspire in others a sense of wonder and inspiration.Ross has a degree in Music from Macalester College where he participated in various ensembles and studied jazz guitar. A desire to create new sounds led him to to modular synthesis in 2016 where he now explores methods of incorporating his traditional music background with the uncharted territory made possible by new technologies.
