Craig David with Roger Nieboer and lesser mortals,
Arboreous

“They took all the trees and put ‘em in a tree museum.” –Joni Mitchell

Have we got a tree for you! It’s yours… to plant, nourish, and praise!

Borrowing from cultural phenomena as wide-ranging as animal shelters, name-a-star schemes, and adoption agencies, Arboreous encourages participants to consider the spiritual, practical and ecological aspects of trees, as we guide you to the tree of your dreams. Along your journey of self-discovery, you may hear re-imagined songs of praise, a TED talk on reducing carbon footprint, and practical advice on planting your tree. Participants may sing along, ask questions of experts, and actually try their hand at the shovel. Levels of engagement are self-determined to encourage maximum participation.

At the completion of your labyrinth journey you will be awarded a Minnesota native oak seedling, grown from acorns that Great River Greening volunteers collected, to plant at a site of your choosing. (If participants have neither the space nor inclination to do so, Arboreous will plant your tree, at a later date, as part of an ongoing reforestation project. Each tree will be tagged, numbered, named and tracked so that you may continue to fondly follow your tree.)

Roger Nieboer is an experimental theatre artist. Trained as a playwright, his recent work focuses on large-scale, audience-interactive performance. Currently he resides on a 99-acre compound in rural Minnesota where he conducts experiments in organic horticulture, avant-garde landscaping and restorative forestry. He also collects cultural artifacts (i.e., junk).

Craig David creates in a spectrum of media including painting, environmental installations, murals in stone, and recently in the video and performance arts. Craig’s desire to create art with meaning compels him to work with and respond to communities, cultures and the environment, making his work truly collaborative in nature.
