Brittany Lynch

brittany-lynchAs a Twin Cities based poet, TV/radio personality, actress, entrepreneur, creative consultant and community organizer, Brittany “Miss Brit” Lynch is truly limitless. Working interdependently between media, art, curation and social justice, she has emerged as a tastemaker for the local entertainment scene. WCCO’s Urban Perspectives coined her as a “Rising Star” and The Star Tribune declared her one of the “Most Influential Black Young Leaders of the Twin Cities.” Miss Brit is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where she received her degree in the Sociology of Law, Criminology, and Deviance with a minor in African and African American studies. In 2012 she traveled to Cape Town, South Africa where she studied healing and reconciliation through a social justice lens, and has since then returned to the United States to apply her studies.

She now runs her own social enterprise (Visions Merging) doing creative consulting and strategic development for various artists and organizations that wish to develop in artistic and equitable ways. She is currently the Director of Operations for Soul Tools Entertainment, and host co-hosts Soul Tools Radio every Saturday night on KFAI. She is the VP of External Affairs for KFAI’s Board of Directors, and is the creator and instructor of the Fresh Air Institute, a youth program that gives young people the opportunity to develop skills as a radio personality. She is also the co-host of the TV show Candy Fresh, which can be viewed on SPNN and BMA cable networks, as well as on the web. In 2015 Miss Brit received Intermedia Art’s Verve Grant Award for Spoken Word, and is currently writing a book of poetry surrounding the themes of social justice, healing, and wellness. She is the creator and co-curator of The Feel Good Revolution, a monthly spoken-word and performance art space dedicated to healing. Miss Brit has been trained in the performing arts since she was a child, and is currently signed with Meredith Model and Talent. She’s been featured in commercials, theatrical productions, and starred in Troy Hudsons film 3-to Flee in 2015.

It’s rare to see her working in one avenue at a time, as her many disciplines of work are constantly happening simultaneously and are often interconnected. She’s been working in the Hip Hop industry since 2009 through a variety of roles, while advocating for justice on issues that affect marginalized communities. At times this work happens in different spaces but for Miss Brit it’s all relative. Her ultimate goal is to create well balanced experiences for herself and others. She views her work of creating space for justice and joy, or entertainment and equity as relevant and integral to a well balanced human experience.

“I’m a complex being, as we all are,” she says. “But what makes me different is that I embrace the complexities, dualities, and nuances of my being. I’m not following a traditional career path I’m creating my own, therefore the boxes and labels that others wish to put me in often don’t apply. I’m not just an artist, or just a business woman, I’m Miss Brit, and I wont limit myself to a constructed definition for the convenience of someone else’s understanding. I wake each day with deep gratitude for the opportunities I create in order to bring my full self into every avenue of my work. Both personally and professionally I have the honor of being me unapologetically, and there is nothing more liberating than that.”
