Sara Endelew was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  She attended Addis Ababa University Fine Arts School and graduated with an Associates Degree in sculpture and painting. After graduating, Sara began working in her own art studio and participated in several group art exhibitions in collaboration with various local and international institutions and organizations.

Sara moved to the United States in 2006 and has been living in the Twin Cities for the last ten years.  Currently, she resides in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. She has had many opportunities to display and show her artwork in the Twin Cities, in collaboration with over a dozen local and regional institutions and businesses.  Sara also expanded her body of work to include photography, photo editing, face painting, and screen printing.

Sara’s work is inspired by her surroundings and rhythm of every day life. She explains that her work originates in her soul in response to the seen and unseen worlds; it is a part of her–her thoughts, reflections, responses, hopes and prayers. She thinks deeply about ways to build her own capacity as a mother and an artist and she wants her art to affirm and celebrate her identity as an African woman; womanhood that, at its core, holds what is beautiful, sacred, while celebrating the principles and practices of communal life.
